Join Our Playwriting Community

We're looking for people who want to help playwrights grow. If you care about storytelling and believe in supporting creative voices, you might fit here. Our team works with writers at different stages, and we value people who bring genuine curiosity and commitment to the work.

Current Opportunities

These positions are open now. We're a small organization, so each role matters. You'll work directly with playwrights and contribute to programs that support dramatic writing throughout Malaysia's theatre community.

Teaching & Mentorship

Script Development Facilitator

Help playwrights refine their work through workshops and one-on-one sessions. You'll guide writers through revision processes, offer feedback on structure and character development, and create supportive learning environments.

  • Lead script analysis workshops for emerging playwrights
  • Provide detailed feedback on drafts and work-in-progress
  • Develop curriculum materials for playwriting fundamentals
  • Support writers preparing work for staged readings

Program Coordination

Learning Experience Designer

Shape how our programs run. You'll organize events, coordinate with instructors, communicate with participants, and make sure everything flows smoothly from registration to completion.

  • Schedule workshops and coordinate guest speakers
  • Handle participant communications and inquiries
  • Manage program logistics and venue arrangements
  • Gather feedback and help improve program delivery

Content Creation

Educational Materials Developer

Create resources that help playwrights learn. This includes writing guides, developing exercises, recording instructional content, and building materials that writers can use independently or in group settings.

  • Write instructional guides on playwriting techniques
  • Design practical exercises for character and dialogue work
  • Develop video tutorials and supplementary materials
  • Research and adapt teaching methods for digital formats

Community Building

Playwright Network Coordinator

Connect playwrights with each other and with opportunities. You'll organize readings, facilitate peer groups, maintain relationships with theatre companies, and help build a supportive community around dramatic writing.

  • Organize monthly playwright meetups and readings
  • Connect writers with production opportunities
  • Build partnerships with local theatre organizations
  • Maintain online community spaces and discussions
What Working Here Looks Like

The Environment We're Building

We're based in Johor Bahru, but most of our work happens online or in community spaces throughout the region. Our team is small enough that you'll know everyone and large enough that you won't be doing everything alone.

People here tend to care deeply about theatre and about helping writers develop their craft. You'll probably attend performances regularly and stay current with what's happening in Malaysian theatre. We value input from everyone, and the boundaries between roles are flexible.

  • Flexible scheduling that accommodates creative work and personal projects
  • Professional development support for theatre training and workshops
  • Access to staged readings and theatre productions throughout Malaysia
  • Collaborative environment where your ideas about program development matter
  • Opportunity to work directly with emerging and established playwrights

Team Perspective

Working With Playwrights Every Day

I started here two years ago after spending time in Kuala Lumpur's independent theatre scene. What keeps me engaged is watching writers discover what their plays can become. You're there when someone figures out how to solve a structural problem they've been wrestling with for months.

The role requires patience and a genuine interest in how stories work. Some days you're giving detailed notes on a second draft. Other days you're helping someone overcome doubt about whether their idea is worth pursuing. It's teaching, but it's also about creating space for people to take risks with their work.

Our team is supportive without being precious about it. We share resources, cover for each other during busy program periods, and actually talk through challenges when they come up. If you want a job where you occasionally see someone's creative breakthrough happen right in front of you, this might work for you.

How to Apply

1

Send Your Information

Email us at help@literature-tool.sbs with your background and why you're interested. Include relevant experience with playwriting, teaching, or arts administration. A resume helps, but a thoughtful message about your connection to theatre matters more.

2

Initial Conversation

We'll schedule a video call to discuss the role and learn about your experience. This is also your chance to ask questions about the work, our programs, and what day-to-day responsibilities actually involve. Expect an honest conversation, not an interview performance.

3

Practical Assessment

Depending on the position, we might ask you to review a script excerpt, outline a workshop session, or complete a relevant project. This helps everyone understand how you approach the work and whether the role fits your skills and interests.

Ready to Contribute?

If this sounds like work you'd find meaningful, reach out. We respond to everyone who applies, usually within a week. Whether you're experienced in theatre education or bringing skills from other areas, we're interested in hearing from you.
